Inspiring blind musician creates special tribute to his father

The best fathers help their children to do incredible things. They believe that you can achieve anything and overcome every obstacle.

At a very young age, Joseph Chica was diagnosed with Lebers Congenital Amourosis (LCA), a rare eye disorder that occurs in roughly 2 to 3 out of 100,000 newborns. LCA affects the retina and the tissues that detect light and color. Joseph progressively began to lose his sight.

Growing up Joseph always wanted to learn to play the piano. However, many teachers wouldn’t take Joseph on as a student because they lacked the knowledge and expertise for how to teach persons with low vision and blindness disabilities. Joseph’s father and family never gave up and ultimately found someone willing and able to help.

Joseph is now seventeen and has developed a talent for composition and performance. He also enjoys working on interpretation of classical pieces. He says, “I would never [have] become the man I am today if it wasn’t for my family. My father’s love gives me the confidence to reach for my dreams.”

Joseph composed the song “A Father’s Love” as a tribute to his dad. He uploaded a heartwarming performance of the piece to YouTube for us all to enjoy and reflect upon. Remember to tell the amazing people in your life that you love them!
