“Learn to Fly” was a huge hit for the Foo Fighters when it was released in 1999. The track was the first single off of their third studio album “There is Nothing Left to Lose” and was the band’s first song to make the US Billboard Hot 100. The music video for “Learn to Fly” went on to receive a Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 2000.
Musicians in the town of Cesena, Italy decided that they could take “Learn to Fly” to a whole new level. Fabio Zaffagnini, founder of the Rockin1000 project, crowdfunded €44,000 as part of a grassroots effort to entice the Foo Fighters to perform a live concert in Italy.
A call went out to local musicians, auditions and rehearsals were held, and an epic performance of 1,000 musicians playing “Learn to Fly” was produced, recorded, and uploaded to YouTube.
The Foo Fighters have not played live since 1997, though it’s hard to imagine that Dave Grohl and his fellow bandmates would choose to miss out a such a unique opportunity to play their greatest hits for a such a talented group of their loving fans.
