Miguel Rivera is a Spanish guitarist who decided to take on the challenge of creating a fresh new cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” for acoustic guitar. In preparation, Rivera listened to the song over and over and broke it down into core riffs, melody, drum, and bass sequences. From there he focused on how the vocal melodies and percussion interacted.
Rivera published his acoustic solo cover of “Beat It” to YouTube in June 2015. Within a few days the video had been viewed more than 2 million times! Rivera’s efforts demonstrate how an original take on a classic hit song can resonate with audiences around the world.
